The Titanic leaving Dock Gate 4, Southampton

p1180671Southampton is not usually forthcoming on Christmas lights as much as other cities – What with the Christmas market and so many lights from shops, ships and offices – But, to open up a leisure area for Christmas at West Quay malls this year, a stunning loop of 7-minute, light and sound illuminations ran on our Old Town Wall at the weekend.

p1180654

p1180656Depicted, was the history of Southampton’s port, which focused on departures of: Henry V troops leaving for Agincourt, The Mayflower with Pilgrims preparing for America, The Titanic leaving for New York, boats and planes in WW2 manoeuvres, J-Class yachts, powerboats, hovercraft, container-ships and so on.

Do you have any festive lights where you are?

  1. Excellent!!! I like it. That’s the way Christmas decorations are going now SOL. A neighbour of mine has a light show over the front of his house this year. One small projector creates all sorts of coloured swirls and star patterns over the front of his house. It won’t be long before people will install sound systems at the front of their houses and project their holiday snaps across the front of their houses, with music or voice comentaries!! Ha! Ha! Just imagine it. The HORROR!!!!!

  2. Thank you so much for sharing your pics …interesting display as it ties in to historical and significant events. Here, mostly individual house lights some of which are really beautiful. Blessings for a good day!

  3. Those illuminations are stunning. People here decorate their houses with coloured lights, but because the days are so long the lights don’t look impressive until around 9.30 or 10.00pm.
