While the world plays Pokemon-Go – the people in Southampton are walking around and searching for painted zebras. A few years ago it was rhinos in collaboration with Marwell Zoo. It was such a success that we now have these zebras with sponsored themes.
So here are some photos of a few of my favourites – I must confess I did not take the details of all of them – one of the best bloggers for these is on the WP site “I Walk Alone” so seek her out for some lovely walks.
Vandals have stolen some of them; one also with a Beatles theme, named Ticket to Ride featuring buses, was found floating along the River Itchen and rescued by a youth sailing team.

For an avid walker who seems to be getting them all (though you might need to register on her site) – I Walk Alone – click: here
They’re lovely, aren’t they? I’m looking forward to seeing more than the two I’ve seen by the railway station.

There are so many! I Walk Alone has taken lots too – love the zebra fouls in the library

I think the ones in the library look the most interesting of all.

Great post. A few years ago we took our gand-daughter Flo to find elephants in London. I was awaiting a hip replacement, and didn’t I know it?

Elephants are my favourites – but I like bulls (in Spain) too.

Great photos and what a way to enliven, brighten, and make a city more people friendly. I have to say that I love these zebras, especially the one outside the coffee shop window.

People love them – these are just a fraction of them.

I recognized the gateway too, not that I know Southampton that well. The ferries mainly, over to France, and one lecture that I gave at at the university.

Hi SOL. I see you’ve been doing some zebring in the town., I hadn’t realised that Southampton was just like safari in Kenya. I have to say that I love these zebras. They are better than the originals. What do you think ?

You mean real zebras? No real zebras are better – but these are creative and colourful.

No, Sol, I meant those colourful zebras which you have there. They really brighten up the place.

You’ve brightened up my day and please, may I have the Ocean zebra. That glorious turquoise would cheer me up if glimpsed from my window on a dull winter’s day.

They do auction them off at the end – that ocean one and the Beatles ones will be popular – I’ve seen a few of the rhinos from two years ago on a few TV soaps.

Do you know who will be auctioning them off? You have made me wonder if I could possibly afford one, I don’t think so, but I could contact them to ask if they have a price in mind that it would go for I’d really love that one.

Wonderful. We had gorillas in Bristol a few years back, and there is a rhinoceros in Paddington Station at the moment. Love the zebras a lot.

Well the gorillas are some of the best things at Bristol Zoo – so I’m not surprised. George the Rhino at Paddington is up for auction soon at Paignton Zoo.

These are as much fun as our pelicans — and ever so clever. I especially like the ocean zebra, and the jigsaw puzzle. The patchwork quilt zebra’s delightful, too. Things like this do brighten an urban landscape, and give so much pleasure. Thanks for sharing them!

Yes its very much like your Pelicans – I love street art and these are the only way our Council will approve any further “grafitti”

Oh, I love the painted zebras! Such a fantastic alternative to that ridiculous Pokemon Go. We had painted pigs here in Seattle, Washington a few years back. Thank you for the extra links, as well. 🎨
