  1. Our Galveston ferries are car ferries. You can ride them without a car, of course, but they’re not so well fitted out for pedestrians. That’s one fine tall ship moored there in the third photo, although I was quite taken with the swan, too.

  2. Oh the Gosport ferry! I love you and hate you! We lived in Gosport for a while, 15 months in a boatyard round the back of Harbour Lane, not the posh Marina. My family lived in Portsmouth, and that little stretch of water stopped me from popping over to see them whenever I wanted. I had to rely on the Gosport ferry to take me there, and then get a bus.
