Your Avatar looks familiar! Like your title too. I have read IQ84 and the sequel – love his writing. Must get around to Kafka on the shore. Love Kafka too. Shall follow you
I wish you the best with your blog. I look forward to reading about one of my favorite places. BTW Have you considered using a prominent “follow” widget? It’s always helpful.
I am not the most technical person and have just opted for basic settings – I shall do a search and see if I can work out how to get one – Thank for the tip.
I have started following you. I visited New Orleans in 1997 and loved it. I was so shocked about Hurricane Catrina and am so glad that you are documenting its recovery – also love your laid back words and colourful (UK English) views through the lens.
Thank you for following me. I suppose New Orleans was very different in 1997. I wasn’t here then. I was in Hong Kong watching y’all hand the country over to the PRC. I lived in HK for six years. Queen’s English phrasing is very familiar to me.:)
Wishing you continued good health for many tomorrows!
I found your blog via Sabiscuit’s and think it’s nice to have
landed at the beginning, then read all the way through! 🙂 ♥ ❤
Thanks. Am now following your blog. Love all the knitting. I am a fan of yarn storming but am a useless knitter myself – can just about manage a scarf. Love your chatty comments.
Hi the words you have wrote here resonate deeply with me as my aunty is currently undergoing chemotherapy for stage 4 oesophagus cancer . Im sure this post will be inspirational for her tyvm .
I really wish her well. Please listen to anything she has to say. I had stage 4 Hodgkins Lymphoma. I gave everything away and planned my funeral. Then went into complete shock when I was told I was Cancer-free. My main worry was my 14 year old daughter at the time. Please send your Aunty my love.
Hi. Southanpton Lady. You’ve just ‘liked’ my Winchester piece and I checked in to see your profile. I’m from the Isle of Wight so I’ll wave to you next time I’m in Cowes. I missed the Portsmouth Christmas this year but will be there next year, abw. Meantime, I enjoyed reading your blog and have signed up to follow you. I had a bit of trouble finding where to put this comment though, but have managed it now. I too am a survivor and enjoying life to the full. New Orleans is one of my all time fav. places (I blogged a small Tribute to the great Allen Toussaint who died a few weeks ago, last week). Look forward to reading more about Southampton.
Hello! You stopped by my newly started blog, She is ageless, and I wanted to return the favor. Your photos are amazing. I have been an avid photographer for many decades so we have something in common. I will be watching you. 🙂
I live near Wimbledon in South London. I was born and brought up in Woolston. My mother and father still live in Woolston. They are in their 90s. I often drive down to visit them. I have some old aunts who live in Swift Road.
Yes, it’s changed a lot. My grandfather was a foreman in Thorneycrofts. Do you remember the shipyard?
Last year the Coop closed. My Mum and Dad were always getting something there. They have to rely on my youngest brother, who lives in Hedge End,to get their shopping now. Luckily they both still have their health but they are getting very fragile.
Poor old Vospers – I knew so many that worked there. There is a lovely video of the ship builders online somewhere – I should post it some time. I believe there is going to be a big supermarket under the new block of flats on the waterfront.
Hi, nice to meet you, a local lady! Do you have an “about” page? Difficult to find how to follow you. Some nice photos, looking forward to reading more.
Yes it is. I started last June and am still a novice. It has helped me so much to improve memories that were wiped out with chemotherapy. Be careful though or it will take over your life!
I’m so pleased you stopped by on my blog, because it brought me here. I had a poke around, liked what you offer, and look forward to more. (I had to look up Southampton on google maps – I guess I need to explore more of the UK – another year!)
Southampton was flattened during WWII bombings, so apart from a few strongly-built medieval town walls and buildings. It is all new which doesn’t make a good stay for sight-seeing. It is an important commercial port city. Many cruise ships dock here which makes it a pleasant few hours walk – there are some good museums and ancient pubs, but apart from that it is more famous for it’s music and nightlife full of students. When cruise passengers dock they mainly head for Portsmouth Historical Dockyard, Winchester Cathedral, Stonehenge or London. Happy to be your personal guide if you ever visit.
I found your lovely blog via your like for one of my comments on another blog. It has been an adventure exploring your blog. It seems your new blog of almost a year has been a success. I have been to London twice and hope to get back one of these days. Your attitude on life is inspiring!
How wonderful it is that you survival that beast called cancer. What a strong woman you are! I want to Thank you, for reading my blog. I appreciate it! I find your blog to be very interesting and I enjoy your pictures.
MY FRIEND. I had no idea you started your blog around the time I started mine? I feel I have ‘known’ you much longer than one year, I hope we both have continued health enough to know one another many, many more. You have been a very, very good friend to me and I am so very grateful for you being here, not only to read but to get to know and feel a part of your beautiful and good spirit. Thank you for existing basically and for your words and your heart. You are so appreciated and so valued.
I’ve enjoyed your blogs over the months for there’s always an interesting history, or photo, or personal post. I wish you continuing health, happiness and successful blogging.
Thank you Vronlacroix – I can say the same about you. I think you have a very special style of photography that shows that you are at one with life and Mother Nature.
I’m glad that you have a wonderful outlet such as your blog and that you are a survivor! Just days ago I wrote a post titled cancer, I hate you. It is too close to so many people I know and love but this is encouraging!
Thank you Minister Mom – I read your post and tell you that it is okay to hate Cancer – it is not a human being – you do not need to be forgiven. I volunteer for Cancer Research and each week there are new discoveries – and Cancers are being conquered. There is hope – I am one of the fortunate ones.
Lots of controversy about the cruise ships in harbor, as I understand it from some of the newspapers … they are huge. I used to travel from Southampton to France on my way down to Spain … years ago … those were the days …
So you’ve been to my home city? Yes the shipping industry is going through a competitive build as big as you can race! Though bigger is not always better and they should take heed of the many ships that have sunk for these sort of races before.
I also wanted to let you know my blog will probably be back, I was burned out and I have other things going on that I want to concentrate on. It was a tough decision and something had to give. I still own the domain name asweetdoseofreality.com and I also backed my blog up before I deleted it. All I have to do is create a new one and import everything and everything will be back in place, sans the followers, but that’ll build up again.
Yeah, I was posting pretty much every single day since May 2015. I took a week off several months ago and then I started to skip Sundays. I needed a substantial break.
Lovely blog. I was studying in Soton for a year, I love that city. Looking forward to see more of your posts 🙂
